What’s Your Favourite Birdhouse Style?
I think you can tell a lot about a gardener’s style by their choice of birdhouse. This gallery has everything from stone to wood, rustic to modern, traditional to eclectic. See which ones are your favourites.
If you love bold colours, also see 12 Colourful Garden Ideas. I’ve got some freshly-painted birdhouses in my garden too!
Most birdhouses are suitable simply as garden art decor and not really appropriate as nesting boxes (see this post for more information on making choices that are safe for birds).
Rusty Birdhouses
Stone Birdhouses
The first birdhouse I ever made for my garden was a stone birdhouse. I had seen a rather magnificent one for sale on a garden tour and, after seeing the sticker price ($275), I thought it might be a good idea to try making my own instead.
Tall tower birdhouses are often decorative or ornamental because they are made from a wood log and not intended for nesting birds. The log is embellished with windows, doors, and a roof to give the impresson of a house.
Modern Architecture Birdhouses
Garden Junk / Art / Repurposed Birdhouses
Gazebo Birdhouses
I love this one.
